Coach Gary Aldrich - 2021 Olympic Throws Coach - Both Allegheny Camps
Coach Gary was the 2020 (2021) Olympic Throws Coach!!
Gary Aldrich is the head coach of the Carnegie Mellon track and field team. Gary was also part of the U.S.A. coaching staff as the Assistant Throws Coach for the IAAF World Outdoor Championships summer 2017. In July 2010, Gary served as the assistant throws coach for the NACAC Under 23 Team and in July 2012, he served as the throws coach for the United States at the World Junior Track and Field Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Two years ago, Gary coached the throwers at the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, before being named the Men's Throws Coach for the 2016 World Indoor Championships last March in Portland, Oregon.
Coach Matt Ellis - Owner and Camp Director - Both Allegheny Camps
Coach Matt is the owner of Elite Throws Coaching, the Elite Throws Camps, and throws coach at Johnston High School in Johnston, RI. Like a lot of athletes who might read this, Coach Matt started throwing in high school with great coaches but no one to show him what to do in the weight room. When Matt got to college, he had great coaches in the weight room, but no throws coach. That frustration led Matt to fall in love with coaching throwers upon graduating college.
Since starting Elite Throws Coaching in 2010, Coach Matt has held overnight camps and weekend clinics all around the country including PA, NJ, MA, RI, CT, OH, WI, MI, WV, and MN. Matt has coached 23 Rhode Island shot put and discus state champions and has had multiple athletes win the New England and National high school championships.
Coach Allison Wilson - Lehigh University - Both Allegheny Camps
Coach Taub just finished her second year at Lehigh University where she has coached 3 school record holders, 13 Patriot League scorers and 4 all east honorees. Prior to Lehigh, Coach Taub coached at Gwynedd Mercy University where she helped coach 8 All east honorees.
Prior to her coaching career, she was a four-year thrower at Monmouth University, collecting eight team MAAC Championships, 5 individual titles, and was a 2 time MAAC field athlete of the year. She currently holds the Hawks school record in the shot put and is second all-time in discus.
Coach Shannon Taub - Duquesne University - Both Allegheny Camps
Coach Taub joined the Duquesne coaching staff in the fall of 2020
In her first two years with the Dukes she has had 2 athletes set school records and 16 athletes achieve top 5 all time performances. In the Atlantic 10 Conference she had 1 champion, 5 medalist, and 18 point scorers.
Prior to joining the Duquesne coaching staff, Taub was a five year athlete at Duquesne where she collected many Atlantic 10 medals, and was named the Atlantic 10 Field athlete of the meet. She currently holds the school record in the pentathlon at Duquesne, and has top 5 marks all time in 7 different events.
Coach Dan Freeman - 2017 Maccabi Games Gold Medalist - Both Allegheny Camps
Coach Dan has been a staple at many ETC overnight camps over the years and for great reason. Dan is a fantastic javelin coach and thrower proven by his gold medal performance at the 2017 Maccabia Games in Israel. Dan competed for UNC Charlotte where he was a 2x NCAA championship competitor and school record holder in the javelin. Dan was also an all state javelin thrower in Rhode Island his senior year of high school.
Dan also worked with the UNC Charlotte strength and conditioning staff helping train many different sports. In addition to throwing javelin post-collegiately, Dan also competes in weightlifting and is a USAW Level 1 weightlifting coach.
Coach Ryan Protzman - Bucknell University - Both Allegheny Camps
Coach Protzman joined the Bucknell track and field coaching staff as throws coach in August 2021 after working as the throws coach at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. During his time at Westminster, Protzman helped the women's program to PAC indoor and outdoor team championships in 2020-21, while combining for five individual titles in the indoor and outdoor championships. Coach Ryan also served as an assistant track and field coach at Moniteau High School in West Sunbury, PA, coaching 25 state qualifiers, nine state medalists, and 15 national qualifiers.
Prior to his coaching career, Protzman excelled in both football and track and field at Thiel College. Protzman earned gold in the discus while also taking third in the shot put at the 2007 PAC Championships.
Coach Trevor Roznowski - Alpena HS/Up North Throws -Both Allegheny Camps
Trevor Roznowski is a 2nd Year Head Girls Track and Field Coach and Educator at Alpena High School in Alpena, MI. A graduate of Ferris State University, Trevor was an Honorable Mention GLIAC Discus Thrower in 2021 while also competing in Weight Throw, Hammer Throw, and Shot Put over the course of his career. Trevor attributes his strong background in throwing to his two experiences at Elite Throws Camps as a high school athlete.
With a coaching career that began working local throwing camps in Northern Michigan, Trevor has progressed to coach multiple Michigan State Qualifiers, two National Qualifiers, two All-State Athletes, and a State Champion in Boys Discus. Trevor is also the founder of Up North Throws, a throwing club and technical analysis platform that has enabled him to work with and highlight the accomplishments of Northern Michigan throwers and beyond! With unique perspectives on throwing and a desire to help others grow, Trevor is ecstatic to return to camp!
Coach Wade Floyd - Allegheny College Throws Coach - Both Allegheny Camps
Wade Floyd joined the Gator coaching staff in the fall of 2021. He is our boots on the ground and makes sure the Allegheny throwing area is set up and ready to go for the camps every year. Prior to joining the Allegheny coaching staff, Floyd was a graduate assistant coach with the Muskingum track & field and cross country teams. In that role, Floyd worked primarily with the throwers. Floyd also helped with practice planning, recruiting and the strength and conditioning of those programs.
Floyd graduated from Muskingum with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sports Administration, Health and Fitness while minoring in nutrition. He also earned a Master’s of Adult Education from Muskingum.

Coach Brian Woodbury - University of Maine Throws Coach - Gordon Camp Only
Coach Woodbury joined his alma mater in October of 2020 as the throws coach and sports performance coach for Track & Field. He has coached 42 top 10 UMAINE record holders including 2 school records. He has coached his athletes to 15 All-America East titles and 22 All-New England titles including 2 New England champions in the men's and women's hammer. He founded SlingSHOT Throws in 2017, where he coached multiple state champions and state record holders in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, as well as the former Indoor and Outdoor New England record holder in the boy’s shot put. He also coached 3 New Balance National Champions and an All-American. .
Woodbury is certified through USATF as a Level 1 & 2 Throws Coach, USTFCCCA as a Throwing Event Specialist, the NSCA as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and USAW as a Level 1 and Level 2 Weightlifting Coach. He is also working toward earning his Master’s of Education degree in Kinesiology.
Coach Whitney Cyr - Assumption University Head Coach and Throws Coach - Both Camps
Since starting in September, Cyr’s throwers have broken two school records in the men’s shot and the men’s weight throw. Prior to Assumption, Cyr was the Associate Head Coach as well as a strength and conditioning coach at Franklin Pierce University for eight years. During her time the program produced 113 Northeast-10 Champions, 88 All-New England recognitions, 18 All-Americans, and a Division II National Champion in 2019.
Cyr’s throwers at Franklin Pierce won the individual conference championship in the men’s weight throw and indoor women’s shot put in 2022, and the women’s outdoor shot and women’s discus titles in 2021. Cyr also won the women’s NCAA East Region Division II Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Additionally, she has coached three javelin athletes, a hammer thrower, and a shot putter to NCAA Division II Championship qualifying marks.
Coach Shay Austin-Leary - Bryant University Throws Coach - Both Camps
Since starting at Bryant, Coach Shay has helped lead the Bulldogs to one of their most successful all around seasons in program history. Under her watch, Kasey Thomas (shot put) and Nick Alessandro (javelin) each won silver medals at the NEC championships. Both throwers advanced to the New England regional competition, where Alessandro finished sixth and Thomas eighth.
Austin-Leary came to Bryant with a successful coaching background from the high school and collegiate levels. Coach Shay was the Assistant Coach at Middletown High School after a successful year at UMass Dartmouth. While at UMass Dartmouth, she was named the USTFCCCA Division III New England Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year. Her athletes broke every indoor and outdoor throwing school record. Austin-Leary also developed four All-Americans in weight, hammer, shot and javelin. She also led the UMass Dartmouth javelin squad to become the number one Division III team with an average throw of 62.17m.
Coach John Napolitano - UMASS Amherst Throws Coach - Both Camps
Coach Napolitano has been throws coach at UMASS since 2017. Since joining the UMASS program, his throwers have set 23 new all time top 5 marks and 3 school records in outdoor and indoor track and field. He's helped the UMASS women achieve two A-10 championships.
Before joining the UMASS staff, John spent three seasons at Christopher Newport University where he coached 9 Division III championship qualifiers, 3 Division III All Americans, and 26 all region honorees. His athletes won seven conference titles and set 4 school records during his tenure there as well.
Before Christopher Newport University, John was the coach at his alma mater Keene State University where he coached 11 NCAA Division III qualifiers, 6 All Americans, And 2 NCAA Division III All Americans! .
Coach Duke Taylor - Yale University Throws Coach - Both Camps
Coach Duke Taylor came highly recommended to the ETC staff by many other top coaches...including every coach at the Allegheny College camp! Coach Duke joined the Yale coaching staff in 2019 after spending a year coaching at Malone University in Canton, Ohio. In his short time at Yale, Coach Duke had two Yale throwers qualify for the NCAA East preliminary round outdoors in 2022 and one in 2023. One thrower advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championship for the first time since 2012.
Coach Duke was the NCAA Division II discus national champion his senior year of college. He was a three time NCAA Division II All American in discus during outdoor and an All American in the weight throw during indoor season. I am extremely excited to have Coach Taylor join our coaching staff this summer!
Coach Bobby White - Westfield State University Throws Coach - Westfield Camp
Coach White is our boots on the ground this summer at Westfield. This camp wouldn't be possible without Coach White reaching out and getting us in contact with the right people at Westfield. Coach White started with Westfield in the fall of 2023 after coaching at American International College. Coach White has also been the coach of Agawam High School and Ludlow High School.
Bobby threw at Worcester State University where he was a captain and MASCAC men's hammer throw champion. He has coached one individual Western Mass champion in girls javelin along with several state meet qualifiers in the shot and discus. I am super excited to have a Coach White working side by side with me at the Westfield camp this summer!
Why Choose Elite Throws Camps
Over Other Track Camps?
THROWERS ONLY!
Unlike a lot of camps out there, the Elite Throws Camp is just for throwers only! No other track and field events are taught except for glide shot put, rotational shot put, discus, and javelin. This means throwers are not lost in a huge sea of runners, sprinters, and jumpers. Throwers get all of the attention from our elite coaches.
SMALL GROUP COACHING!
ETC overnight camps are limited to 75 throwers...MAX!! Divide those throwers between 7-8 coaches and you are left with a very small ratio of 9 throwers to 1 coach! Throwers are not in a huge group of 30-40 kids like other camps and they receive tons of one on one attention and individual coaching.
UPPER CLASS DORMS WITH AIR CONDITIONING!
Overnight camps can be tough on throwers if dorm life is difficult. Tiny beds, no air conditioning, no place to keep your drinks cold, and sharing a tiny bathroom with the entire floor of your dorm!

Our dorms are ALWAYS air conditioned upper class housing.

Dorms will have a single or double room with an extra long twin bed. Every college dorm is different, but we always try to provide suites with max of 3-4 athletes sharing a bathroom.

Athletes can request roommates if friends or teammates are attending.

Throwers are roomed together based on their age and the events they want to work on at camp. This way they get to know each other faster and spend more time together.
ALL LEVELS ARE WELCOME!
It doesn't matter if you are a beginner throwing for the first time or if you are a state champion looking to get noticed by college coaches, you will see major improvement by attending this camp. In the past, we've had brand-new beginner throwers who never even held a shot, discus, or javelin leave camp throwing big distances with confidence. We help all levels so don't feel like you have to be a pro to sign up! Our coaches are skilled coaching all levels of throwers from beginner to advanced!
BEAUTIFUL THROWING FACILITIES
Elite Throws Camps have absolutely wonderful throwing facilities. Plenty of space for throwing and drills, shady areas to get out of the sun, competition shot put circles, and great discus circles and cages. The best part? Field houses for implement storage right next to the throwing circles. We can store our throwing equipment in the locked garages so you don't have to lug it back and forth to the dorm after every session.
EVEN THE FOOD IS GOOD!
The cafeterias at our camps are a short walk from the dorm and we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with snacks and desserts. Food is included in the price for all overnight campers. Our host schools are great with campers that might have a food allergy or any dietary restrictions as well. Of all the camps and clinics we've hosted over the years, we always get GREAT food reviews!
HIGH SCHOOL AGE THROWERS ONLY!
Another great thing about this camp is that it is designed for high school throwers. This camp is perfect if you are going into high school in September or if you just graduated high school this past June! This camp was created for the high school thrower. There won't be high level, 20-something year old college throwers living in the dorms with you and there won't be younger elementary school ages either. Ages 14-18 are welcome to attend.

Overnight Camper Price - $675
Overnight camper price includes 4 days and 3 nights in an upper class, air conditioned dorm room with a common living area, suite bathrooms, and kitchenette with microwave and fridge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the school dining hall are included in the price along with camp t-shirt, insurance, a trainer at all sessions, access to all coaches and events, and sports complex access in case of rain.
Commuter Price - $525
Includes everything as the overnight campers except there is no room or food included in the price. Commuters will have access to the dorm common rooms between sessions so they can get some air conditioning, hang out with new friends, and relax between sessions.
Commuters are encouraged to bring meals with them or purchase meals in the dining hall.

WAITING LIST
I know this has been mentioned a few times on this page, but these camps do sell out every year and will sell out again this year. This is not some marketing ploy or strategy to oversell the camp. We are limited by dorm space. If registration is full, you do have the option to be put on a waiting list. If someone drops out of the camp, people on the list will be contacted in the order they registered to fill that spot.
LAST DAY TO CANCEL
The absolute last day to cancel and receive a refund is May 31st. After May 31st, your registration fee can not be refunded to you. The reason for this is simple, I need to provide the college with an accurate list of names of athletes attending, assign dorm rooms, let the cafeteria know how many are attending, and hire any additional coaches or training staff to accommodate. I also need to let the camp insurance company know an accurate amount of campers attending. This info needs to be in to the college by June 1st. We can always add to the number but we need to have that number by June 1st. After that, no refunds will be issued and you are locked in. Just like a concert, if you buy a ticket, the concert happens whether you show up or not!
IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER...
Elite Throws Camp does have use of the college's indoor sports complex in case of inclement weather. This is a rain or shine camp. Please make sure to bring rain gear with you.
