ELITE THROWS COACHING WINTER CLINIC
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6th, 2014
9AM – 4PM
Clinic will be held at:
PRIMAL ATHLETE TRAINING CENTER
2220 Plainfield Pike
Cranston, RI 02921
The first half of the day will cover everything you need to know
to get your athletes stronger during the season
and peaking for the championship meets.
The second half of the day will cover glide shot put mechanics
with the major focus on troubleshooting common mistakes
and what steps you should take to correct them.
Please continue reading to learn more.
This will be the third coaching clinic held at Primal and like the previous two, my goal is to give you as much practical information as possible.
I’ve learned a lot from past clinics and have structured this clinic to give you
what you need to develop your athletes this season.
At past clinics, the day was more procedural with a “step by step” teaching feel.
Day 1 teach this…day 2 show this…day 3 explain this…
Like many other presenters out there, I assumed you were going to be coaching
new athletes with no issues or problems.
Clean slates, if you want to look at it that way.
You are a coach. You don’t really have the opportunity to teach
from the ground up.
You need to be reactive. Correct issues when they pop up.
Deal with unforeseen problems. Most of the day you are fixing, not instructing!
Say, for example, you get your throwers in the weight room for the first time
together as a team. It’s the second or third day of practice.
You look around the room and 20 kids are there staring back at you.
4 of the athletes are stud football players.
You know they have been lifting hard the past 6 months.
7 of the athletes are freshmen and haven’t lifted a day in their lives.
5 of the athletes were freshmen last year and you can tell they haven’t done ANYTHING all summer or fall.
The remaining 4 are juniors who did really well last year and
you think this could be their breakout year.
You’ve given yourself 45 minutes to do the weight training session.
What do you do?
Or how about this situation…
It’s the middle of the season.
You’re coaching 10 of your throwers at the shot circle.
At this point in the season they are all on different levels.
A few of your freshmen have really “clicked” and get it.
Your senior is losing his mind because he hasn’t PR’d in 4 weeks.
Your two juniors are so stressed out with school
they can’t keep focused on the goal for that day.
The rest are goofing off and have given up for the day.
You’ve given yourself 90 minutes of throwing.
What do you do?
Conquering these situations is what separates
the top coaches from the average coaches
Managing the issues.
A few weeks ago I sent out a survey to everyone
on my mailing list asking what they wanted
in the next coaching clinic at Primal.
There were answers you could select
and a spot where you could write in your own answer.
What was most shocking were the topics
from coaches who wrote in their own suggestions.
Here are some of the write in suggestions:
“How to structure a season of practice to build
to the Sectional and State meet.”
“Drills when no throwing area is available.”
“Lousy weather coping skills.”
“Video reviews to find mistakes.”
“Periodization specific weight training differences.”
“Workouts for a short season.”
Dealing with outdoor throwing in the elements.”
Seeing a pattern develop there?
I really don’t think coaches need the typical “how to throw”
coaching clinic anymore.
You are put in tough situations every season and
you want to know how to handle these situations
to give the most benefit to your throwers.
You will learn how to peak your athletes for the
big meets at the end of the season
USING STRATEGIES TO DEAL WITH UNFORTUNATE
SITUATIONS THAT ALWAYS POP UP.
You will learn how to coach proper glide shot technique
WITH THE EMPHASIS ON WORKING WITH A LARGE
GROUP OF ATHLETES THAT ALL HAVE INDIVIDUAL ISSUES.
You will learn strategies to overcome the most common
problems that hinder coaches every season.
LACK OF SPACE
WEIGHT ROOM THAT IS TOO TINY
LACK OF A WEIGHT ROOM
BEING A STRENGTH COACH FOR SPRINTERS AND JUMPERS
TOO MANY ATHLETES TO COACH
MEETS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK
TOO SHORT OF A SEASON
PEAKING ATHLETES CORRECTLY
Your cost is only $69.00!
If you register before November 1st
your investment is only $59.00!
You do not want to miss this opportunity.
My goal is to make this a “problem solving coaching clinic.”
You will still learn glide shot technique and ways that
you can peak your athletes to be at their best when it counts,
but you will learn how to be the best coach you can be
when unfortunate situations pop up.
